My #OneWord2019 – INSPIRE

In 2017, I made a commitment that my #OneWord would not be just for that year, but for life!  I admit that for the past two years, I reflected on this commitment and gave myself permission to change it if I felt that another word could give me the proper perspective, motivation, and energy for the upcoming year.  But, I keep coming back to – INSPIRE.

preorder-img-resourcesLast year, I read The Power of Moments which has had a great impact in all areas of my life.  The premise of the book is a profound question whether all moments are spontaneous or could be made.  The authors shared story after story in how people created moments by intentionally making them.  The authors walked through four Elements  that create paths for moments: Elevate, Insight, Pride, and Connection!

The premise of INSPIRE is seeking the joy in the journey.

In every interaction, we have an opportunity.  It could be during our daily job in how we interact with parents, students, and staff members.  But, it could also be in other venues, such as the people we come into contact with at a store, church, restaurant, or even parking lot.  During those moments, we can choose to focus on the intended purpose or create a moment.  And, during that moment, we have the ability to INSPIRE.  Through our words and actions, we have the opportunity to change a life.

When we approach people, circumstances, and work as an opportunity to INSPIRE, we realize the power of our words and actions.  We realize that greeting someone with a smile can make a difference.  That taking the time to thank someone genuinely provides a moment.  I led a book study on The Power of Moments with Sean Gaillard (@smgaillard) last year, and we called these interactions #MomentMakers!

Angie Adrean (@aadrean) reminds me of how a greeting can create an opportunity to inspire others when she introduces herself – “Hi, I’m Angie Adrean, and I get to serve as the Chief Academic Officer in Worthington City School”.  Wow! Amazing how this change creates a different mood for her and others in being honored and humbled for this important position.

With our words, we carry an opportunity.  For 2019, I choose to use them wisely to INSPIRE.  Ephesians 5:16A calls forth an important decree: “Make the most of every opportunity”.  Not only during those big moments, but even the small, we have an opportunity to INSPIRE others in what we say and do.

Here are 8 Ways I Will Commit to Inspiring Others in 2019_ Help Others to Achieve Their Dreams. Be Present with People in Their Moment. Be Transparent in My Journey. Take the Time to Listen. Encourage Others. Help Ot.png
